Throat Yeast Infection

There is usually an existing condition in an adult before they will be likely to have a yeast mouth infection or throat infection, it is very rare in healthy adults, but it can happen. Existing conditions include an immune deficiency due to a disease like AIDS, chemotherapy, or a course of antibiotics for something else. There is a natural balance of bacterial flora in all places in the body, including the throat, which would usually keep Candida Albicans micro-organisms at an acceptable level. The yeast infection is caused by the overgrowth of candida in the throat, just like in any other part of the body. More information can be found here: yeast treatments.

Inside the mouth and throat, there may be white spots. Redness and swelling in the area are also common. Yeast infections in the throat can have other effects as well, like feeling sick in the stomach, fever, or tiredness. The growth of fungus near the mouth can then spread to the throat, which is more common in babies. Diagnosing the condition is usually straight forward and involves an inspection of the throat. There are other conditions, like strep throat, with similar symptoms. The doctor may take a scraping and have a closer look or send it away for analysis to be sure. It can be a very difficult condition to cope with so it may be a good idea to visit a doctor. Much relief can be gained from applying apple cider vinegar. It can be used to fight the candida albicans in the throat by mixing with some water and gargling a few times per day. Apple cider vinegar can also be consumed in a salad or mixed in with some drinks. The balance of bacteria in the throat can also be restored with the help of sugar free yogurt. There are some prescription drugs and also acidophilus capsules available for adults. In babies, the condition often heals itself quite easily in two to four days.

If you are a nursing mother, an oral yeast infection in your baby can be cause for concern. In the course of breast feeding, the yeast can spread to the nipple. If the area becomes overly sensitive, there is excessive pain during nursing, or flaky skin, there could be a yeast infection at the nipple. For more info, click: yeast treatment.
